Walking On Water

Walking On Water

Jesus put his disciples in a boat while he went to pray

But a great big wind came up and threatened to blow them away

They were afraid that they would sink

Into the murky darkness, black as ink

They let their doubts into their minds

"Oh ye of little faith," but all was fine

Jesus came out, up to the boat walking on water

Peter said to Jesus if that’s really you then call for me to come

Jesus said "Come on Pete," so Peter got out and started to run

But he was afraid and started to sink

Into the murky darkness, black as ink

He let his doubts into his mind

"Oh ye of little faith," but all was fine

Jesus and Peter went hand-and-hand walking on water

(Bridge)

Why oh why can’t I find my faith in this heart?

I go searching in circles and come back to the start

And in my dreams I never falter

Every path leads me to the altar

And God’s sons and daughters go walking on water

The moral of this story is obvious to see

Jesus said whatever I do you can do just as easily

Just don’t be afraid that you might sink

Into the murky darkness, black as ink

Don’t let those doubts into your mind

"Oh ye of little faith," you know all is fine

You can go out into this world walking on water

This song uses an alternate tuning on guitar, Double Dropped D, and when I first created the riffs, I couldn’t play it and sing it at the same time.

I played the early prototype of this song for Maríenne Kreítlow, my wonderfully talented music mentor, on a weeknight - and she told me to get it finished to play on Sunday! Yikes! But I managed to finish writing and practiced it like crazy.

A couple of years later, I was asked to sing with Classical Grass, a blue-grass band that Chuck was in, and we performed this song all over Texas.
